It Don’t Matter If You’re Black Or White

I would just like to give St. Louis’ Go! magazine a round of applause for featuring an interracial couple kissing on the cover of this weekend’s edition. The article isn’t even about interracial couples, which is what makes it so great. It’s just an article about great places to kiss, and features this (real life) interracial couple on their cover without any mention of it. They’re treated as a real, normal couple (which they are).

Obviously, there was outrage and it caused quite a stir, but instead of addressing the ignorance, closed-mindedness, and bigotry of others, I am choosing to acknowledge the magazine for it’s cover. Fucking awesome.

I saw the story and the outrage afterwards. Just crazy shit. I myself am in an interracial relationship and so to see the picture didn't strike me as awkward but as I've said before, unfortunately Obama getting elected only made matters worse for some. I hate that people even said the picture was offensive. What a world we live in. Glad you aren't on that side of ignorance.

I'm glad they used it too… Until recently I was working at a publishing company that was preparing to release a health guide and for the cover the designer had initially chosen a biracial family. But since this health guide was connected to a clinic in the midwest, they made him change it to avoid the risk of offending people. *headdesk*

Wonderful. And you're right. The fact that it's not "about" interracial relationships is the key. Here's hoping that with each passing year, it's less of a big deal.

    Love is beautiful. That's all.

It’s so strange to me that this can even be an issue for some people in this day and age. My sister, who is as glowingly white as I am, only dates black guys so I just don’t get it.

I just don’t get it at all.

i'm SHOCKED that this caused an outrage.. i don't think the same would have happened in norway? it's not seen as very politically correct to be a racist in norway. i'm glad it isn't, although some people are racist anyway – but not enough to make an outrage over a photo of a couple kissing..? – or maybe that was what you thought about the US too.. before this.. lol.
i'm reading some of the comments of people that got offended from the link you posted.. fucking hell. i don't know what to say.

This is great! I agree, how nice to not have to mention it as part of a larger discussion at all. I am shocked that people were outraged!
