Product Review: Gigi

I hate to do this to another Lelo toy, but… I’m going to have to. Because y’all don’t want me to blow smoke up yer asses, right? You want an honest review from me, yes?

That’s what I thought.
So, I don’t really love the Gigi. Like the Ella, I *wanted* to like it. It’s really a fantastic vibe. It’s just that I… don’t. I was really excited to get Gigi, mostly because my problem with the Liv is that it’s about *thismuch* too short to reach the spot I want it to reach, and I’d hoped that the end on the Gigi would allow it to do that. It did not.
Let’s talk packaging: Like all Lelo toys, Gigi’s packaging is gorge. She comes in a beautiful box that matches the toy, with a photo of the toy on the back. Inside the package is a black box that holds Gigi. I love the Lelo boxes; they’re fabulous for storing the toys in. Underneath the piece that holds the Gigi is the charger, a white satin storage bag, an instruction manual, and the one-year warranty (clicking all pictures makes them larger).

So, let’s talk specs: Gigi has 4 1/2 inches of insertable length, and is made from silicone. Phthalate-free, non-porous, hypoallergenic, all that good stuff. It has 7 speeds and 5 patterns of vibration (steady vibration, slow/medium/fast pulse, or rollercoaster). There are push button controls on the handle; a minus sign on the right turns the toy down or off, a plus sign on the left turns the toy up or on, an arrow on the top goes up through the functions, while an arrow on the bottom goes back down. Gigi doesn’t have a flared base, so I wouldn’t recommend using her anally, though if you think you can keep a firm grip on her, that’s your call.

Alright. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk pros: The color. OMG THE COLOR. It’s freaking beautiful. I want to paint my whole house the color of my Gigi! I mean, I already have matching stockings. And a matching dress! But moving onto real things… Gigi is rechargeable, which freaking rocks. Batteries are a pain in the ass, and Gigi makes them wholly unnecessary. There is a LED light around the controls which blinks while it’s charging, and is solid when the charge is full. When Gigi is on, the light is white; when she needs a charge, the light glows red. You get up to 2 hours of playtime with Gigi, which is awesome.
Gigi is wicked quiet, which is amazing. It’s great if you have roommates, but it’s also great for when I’m playing on Skype with Profligacy. It’s easy to hear each other over the sound of the vibrator because the vibrator hardly makes any sound! In fact, Profligacy can’t usually even tell if it’s on or not! Gigi is also fairly strong, and I’m one that requires earth-shattering (read: Hitachi) levels of vibration to get off, and if I’m aroused enough, Gigi can do it if I use her for clitoral stimulation. She’s a really nice warm-up toy, and great for foreplay or teasing. I also find the controls really easy to use, though I sometimes end up inadvertently hitting them while it’s in use. However, I didn’t find that to be too much of a problem once I got used to it.
And now for the sad part. The cons (at least for me). What didn’t I like about Gigi? Well, quite a few things. First of all, I feel like the cool patterns of vibration are kind of wasted on me. Patterns do nothing for me except frustrate me, and I end up laying there and making a grocery list in my head while they dance away and do their thing. Secondly, I do prefer stronger vibrations, but I don’t really want to fault the toy for this, because I’m kind of an anomaly when it comes to that sort of thing.

But my real problem with Gigi is in the design of the toy when it comes to insertion. It’s just too short. The shaft of the toy has a nice curve and a flat tip, which is supposed to provide g-spot stimulation. That’s great, but it doesn’t reach my g-spot. I kept wanting to put it farther inside me, and my g-spot isn’t even that far into my vagina! For women whose g-spot is located further into their vaginal cavity, there’s no way this toy would reach. But the shaft isn’t the only thing that’s too short: the handle is, too! I find it really hard to get a good grip on it, as there’s just not enough to hold onto. Even when Profligacy used the toy on me, He complained about the length of the handle and had a hard time controlling and thrusting the Gigi. I would also prefer if Gigi was a little girthier, but I’m a size queen, so I may not be the best person to judge the girth of a toy.
But, what about alternate uses for the toy that I’ve found that I do like? Well, I’ve found a few! I’ve found that Gigi feels really good on my nipples. I have quite sensitive nipples, and the vibrations of this toy feel really nice. I also like placing it against my clamps when they’re on my nipples. The vibrations carry through the clamps, and I’ve actually reached orgasm that way! The other way I’ve found that I really like to use Gigi is with my pussy pump. When my pump is on, I can place Gigi up against the cup, and the vibrations travel through to my lips and clit, which are, at this point, sucked up against the cup. The vibrations are gentle and smooth/not-jarring enough that the cup stays easily in place when I do that. And, as I mentioned above, I like using it when I’m on Skype with Profligacy due to how quiet it is; it allows us to hear each other, and I’m a huge fan of His dirty talk.
Finally, onto cleaning the sucker. It’s the same schpiel you’ve all heard 1,000 times before: antibacterial soap and water should do the trick if you’re not planning on sharing without a condom. If you are, wipe the toy down with a 10% bleach solution. Make sure that the charging hole on the bottom is securely covered by the rubber stopper so that water doesn’t get in it, and try to avoid getting water in/on the controls. Make sure to only use water-based lube with Gigi, lest you ruin your expensive toy.
In summary, I can’t *not* recommend this toy, even though I didn’t love it. It’s the same thing I’ve said about all my Lelo toys– they’re amazing, amazing products, they just don’t do it for me. Therefore, I’d never discourage someone not to buy one. However, based on my experience with the Gigi, what I can say is this: if you’re someone that doesn’t need lawnmower-powered vibrations to get off, isn’t a size queen, and/or has a shallow g-spot, you’ll probably love this toy. I know many, many people that do. Unfortunately, I’m not one of them.
However, this toy definitely has a place in my toybox. Not only is it great for Skype play, the other uses I’ve found for it make it well worth it. Want one for yourself? You can buy one at Eden Fantasys!

I agree entirely about the penetration problem. Which is why I use my Gigi for clit stimulation and the Iris for simultaneous insertion. Hey, Im not called Having My Cake and Eating It Too for nothing :)

Ive found that, with all these vibes that have lots of pattern, if you just want to come quickly, it's got to be full on total stimulation, no gaps. But if you've got the time to lie back and just have a nice time getting there, then the patterns are good before going in with the big guns.

I would also draw your attention to something that Ive discovered, being older. Your clit can start to become desensitised if you use vibes too much too often, meaning that you require stronger and stronger vibration to achieve the desired goal. As Menopause approaches, the decrease in hormonal balance exacerbates that problem.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings x

I am new to blogs, but in my short time here I have learned so much. Britni, you have an amazing story to tell and it's all right here (I went back to June of '07 for your backstory) for the world to enjoy(!) and learn from. And I so apprec good grammar.
Joanna, I too have issues with clit overuse. I love my Wahl 7 Way, and it can get me off in a minute or two when I'm super horny. But being super horny happens less and less these days as I am over 50, so I am trying to take longer and enjoy a longer build up before I start clenching. Seems to be helping.
