Bearded Ladies

In our society, we expect our women to be hairless. They should shave their legs, their underarms, their pubic hair. Some women eschew that because they want to. But some women can’t help the hair that grows on their body. Whether it’s PCOS or hirsutism, or something they keep by choice, excess hair doesn’t make them any less beautiful.

A little more hair than what society deems “acceptable” does not make anyone more or less beautiful. Hair or no hair, their beauty shines through.

    Ugly as fuck.

You probably won’t post this comment either. Sigh.

I posted it. What do you hope to accomplish by leaving asshole-ish comments?

    Hello, Britni!

Thank you very much for this post! I have PCOS and have always had more facial hair than is acceptable for women, in the past I felt it was ugly. I have come to see that it just means sometimes I get to leave the beard-burn.

I totally love the standards of beauty series. What are you planning next?

    Thank you, Britni!

I too have PCOS, but have by-passed the hair issues for now, though I am unsure of what the future brings. My sister also has PCOS, and she is way more hairy than is acceptable in our society, but gosh darn it! She’s amazingly beautiful!

I disagree with Brit’s perspective on beauty. I don’t find women with hair attractive. I don’t find larger women attractive.

I also don’t find redheaded men attractive, I don’t find Asian men attractive, I don’t find short men attractive, I don’t find people with significant facial piercings attractive.

Shockingly, those groups of people manage to keep getting laid and reproducing.

It’s possible that what I find attractive isn’t what everyone else finds attractive.

Hey, I’ve always been attracted to….let’s call them women of Mediterranean extraction. Plus, I when I was a teenager hippie girls ruled. The groomed beard is a tad over the top for my personal taste, but yes, I see the light shining.
