Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. How do we raise awareness about these things? We tell our stories. We share them with others. I’ve shared two kinds of stories.

I’ve shared the story of my rape.

I’ve also shared my experiences with “Not Rape,” but that doesn’t make these things any less of a sexual assault, or any less harmful to the people that experience them, day in and day out.

Essin Em has shared hers.

Garnet Joyce has shared hers.

Queen George and ImTheMarigold have shared theirs.

Nell Gwynne shared thoughts on the matter, too.

Maybe it’s time for you to share yours! You may not be ready, and that’s okay. If you’re not ready, read about others’ experiences. Think about your own and how it affected you. And when the time is right, you, too, can tell your story.

If you want to tell your story, but would prefer to do so anonymously, you can always send it to me and I’d be happy to post it for you.

Speak up, share your story, and support your fellow survivors, because YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

I didn’t realize that April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I will definitely spread the word.

Does childhood sexual abuse count as assault? If so, I’d like to share my story too.

I had no idea, when I wrote my last post. I wouldn’t mind you linking to it. Even though it isn’t my story, it’s still relevant to the topic (I think, anyway!).
